ABSTRACT Diarrheagenic (DEC) and avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) are associated with intestinal and extra-intestinal infections (ExPEC), respectively. We aimed to analyze the antimicrobial susceptibility, gene encoding virulence factors associated to DEC and APEC, and phylogenetic classification in E. coli isolated from 320 samples of feed and ingredients. Antimicrobial susceptibility was performed using the disk diffusion method and Multiple Antibiotic Resistance (MAR) Index and Multi-Drug Resistance (MDR) were calculated. Phylogenetic classification was performed on samples harboring DEC and/or APEC virulence-associated genes. A total of 110 E. coli strains were isolated in 15% (49/320) of the evaluated inputs (n=13 vegetable meal; n=33 animal... |

ABSTRACT From the perspective of the use of sweet potato branches for animal feed, there is a lack of information on the influence of this action on hay quality. Therefore, the objective was to study the association of sweet potato yield attributes with chemical-bromatological characteristics of hay. Ten sweet potato clones were evaluated, conducted in randomized blocks with five replications. Green and dry mass yield, dry mass content, leaf and stem ratio, total and commercial root yield, and chemical and bromatological characteristics of hay from the branches were determined. Phenotypic correlation and trial analysis between characteristics were estimated. Selection for the highest yield of roots and commercial roots may provide increased hay of crude... |

Determining the competitive position of dairy farms depends on several technological, economic and institutional variables. Among them, are remarkable those related to animal feeding in the current context of high variability on prices. In this context, the aim of our study is to analyze the effects on milk supply and the competitiveness of dairy farms with different models of land intensification, with greater reliance on market purchases or self production of livestock feed. Our work is based on an econometric approach to a variable cost function, in a fixed effects model for unbalanced panel data of specialized dairy farms in Navarre (Spain). From this region, we use 3 geographical areas in relation to the availability of grazing land. It has been... |

ABSTRACT The aim of this work was to propose a mathematical model to determine the best combination of the by-products of coffee processing in the production of silage. To this end, 13 treatments were evaluated, resulting from the combination of wet coffee husks (WCH) and dried coffee husks (DCH), both with and without the use of molasses (M) and with or without the use of the inoculant Lactobacillus plantarum (I). From these components, various mixtures were proposed and evaluated, using the technique of simultaneous optimisation of multiple response variables. Silages with the best characteristics were obtained from the use of 76.40% WCH, 18.77% DCH, 4.83% of M and 0.0001% I. |

It is the purpose of this study to evaluate the agronomic behavior and yield of the Tifton 85 grass (Cynodon dactylon Pers), when used in the treatment of swine wastewater (SW) with constructed wetland systems (CWs). For this purpose, five tanks were built measuring 24 x 1.1 x 0.7 m, damp-sealed with PVC canvas and filled with 0.4 m crushed stone. In two of these tanks, Tifton grass was cultivated: one of the tanks (CW 3) contained the grass, and in the other (CW4) the grass was only cultivated in the final third part of the tanks, being preceded by Alternanthera (Althernanthera philoxeroides) and cattail (Thypha latifolia L.). The SW was previously treated by means of a filtration process that consists of 0.7 m - high organic filters; the filtering beds... |
