Antimicrobial resistance, diarrheagenic and avian pathogenic virulence genes in Escherichia coli from poultry feed and the ingredients Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Rossato,J.M.; Brito,B.G.; Kobayashi,R.K.T.; Koga,V.L.; Sarmiento,J.J.P.; Nakazato,G.; Lopes,L.F.D.; Balsan,L.A.G.; Grassotti,T.T.; Brito,K.C.T..
ABSTRACT Diarrheagenic (DEC) and avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) are associated with intestinal and extra-intestinal infections (ExPEC), respectively. We aimed to analyze the antimicrobial susceptibility, gene encoding virulence factors associated to DEC and APEC, and phylogenetic classification in E. coli isolated from 320 samples of feed and ingredients. Antimicrobial susceptibility was performed using the disk diffusion method and Multiple Antibiotic Resistance (MAR) Index and Multi-Drug Resistance (MDR) were calculated. Phylogenetic classification was performed on samples harboring DEC and/or APEC virulence-associated genes. A total of 110 E. coli strains were isolated in 15% (49/320) of the evaluated inputs (n=13 vegetable meal; n=33 animal...

Association between agronomic characters and hay quality of sweet potato branches Horticultura Brasileira
Andrade Júnior,Valter C de; Donato,Luan Mateus S; Azevedo,Alcinei M; Guimarães,Amanda G; Brito,Orlando G; Oliveira,Davi M; Medina,Antônio Julio; Silva,Lidiane R.
ABSTRACT From the perspective of the use of sweet potato branches for animal feed, there is a lack of information on the influence of this action on hay quality. Therefore, the objective was to study the association of sweet potato yield attributes with chemical-bromatological characteristics of hay. Ten sweet potato clones were evaluated, conducted in randomized blocks with five replications. Green and dry mass yield, dry mass content, leaf and stem ratio, total and commercial root yield, and chemical and bromatological characteristics of hay from the branches were determined. Phenotypic correlation and trial analysis between characteristics were estimated. Selection for the highest yield of roots and commercial roots may provide increased hay of crude...

Effects on milk supply of different systems of livestock feeding AgEcon
Casasnovas, Valero L.; Aldanondo, Ana Maria.
Determining the competitive position of dairy farms depends on several technological, economic and institutional variables. Among them, are remarkable those related to animal feeding in the current context of high variability on prices. In this context, the aim of this study is to analyze the effects on milk supply and the competitiveness of dairy farms with different models of land intensification, with greater reliance on market purchases or self-production of livestock feed. This study is based on an econometric approach to a variable cost function, in a fixed effects model for unbalanced panel data of specialized dairy farms in Navarre (Spain). From this region, we use 3 geographical areas in relation to the availability of grazing land. It has been...

Enriching nutritive value of cassava root by yeast fermentation Scientia Agricola
Boonnop,Krisada; Wanapat,Metha; Nontaso,Ngarmnit; Wanapat,Sadudee.
Cassava (Manihot esculenta) is extensively cultivated throughout the tropics and subtropics regions due to its ability to grow in diverse soil conditions and minimal management. Experiments were made to study the cassava root fermentation by yeasts in order to enhance the nutritive value of their products (fresh pulp and chips). Both cassava chip (CC) and fresh cassava root pulp (FCR) samples were fermented by Saccharomyces cerevisiae in solid-liquid media fermentation conditions during 132 hours and dried at 30ºC. Products were analyzed for proximate composition, mineral composition, essential aminoacids and antinutrient content. There were increases (p < 0.01) in protein (30.4% in CC and 13.5% in fermented cassava root -FCR) and fat contents (5.8% in...

Mathematical models applied to the optimisation of mixtures in the production of silage from coffee by-products Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Malta,Marcelo Ribeiro; Cirillo,Marcelo Ângelo; Fassio,Larissa de Oliveira; Barcelos,Adauto Ferreira; Lima,Priscilla Magalhães de.
ABSTRACT The aim of this work was to propose a mathematical model to determine the best combination of the by-products of coffee processing in the production of silage. To this end, 13 treatments were evaluated, resulting from the combination of wet coffee husks (WCH) and dried coffee husks (DCH), both with and without the use of molasses (M) and with or without the use of the inoculant Lactobacillus plantarum (I). From these components, various mixtures were proposed and evaluated, using the technique of simultaneous optimisation of multiple response variables. Silages with the best characteristics were obtained from the use of 76.40% WCH, 18.77% DCH, 4.83% of M and 0.0001% I.

Potential of wet blue leather waste for ruminant feeding R. Bras. Zootec.
Silva,Rodrigo Carvalho; Resende Júnior,João Chrysostomo de; Lima,Ronaldo Francisco de; Sousa,Raimundo Vicente de; Oliveira,Luiz Carlos Alves de; Daniel,João Luiz Pratti; Moreira,Anselmo de Oliveira.
The objective of this study was to find an alternative to minimize environmental contamination by leather waste using it as ruminant feed. The wet blue leather wastes (WB) without chrome extraction were compared with the leather wastes in which the chrome was extracted (CE). Both materials had 99.7% of dry matter (DM), but the crude protein level was higher (90.4%) in CE than in WB (74.3%). In situ effective ruminal degradability of DM was 59.7% and it was 63.1% for CP in CE. The WB did not suffer degradation in the rumen. In vitro abomasal digestibility of CE was 100%. The percentage of degradation per hour was higher for CE (8.2%) than for WB (0.08%). The mineral content was higher in wet blue leather wastes (10.4%) than in CE (0.4%) reflecting the...

Tifton grass yield on constructed wetland used for swine wastewater treatment AGRIAMBI
Matos,Antonio T.; Freitas,Wallisson S.; Martinez,Mauro A.; Tótola,Marcos R.; Azevedo,Aristéa A..
It is the purpose of this study to evaluate the agronomic behavior and yield of the Tifton 85 grass (Cynodon dactylon Pers), when used in the treatment of swine wastewater (SW) with constructed wetland systems (CWs). For this purpose, five tanks were built measuring 24 x 1.1 x 0.7 m, damp-sealed with PVC canvas and filled with 0.4 m crushed stone. In two of these tanks, Tifton grass was cultivated: one of the tanks (CW 3) contained the grass, and in the other (CW4) the grass was only cultivated in the final third part of the tanks, being preceded by Alternanthera (Althernanthera philoxeroides) and cattail (Thypha latifolia L.). The SW was previously treated by means of a filtration process that consists of 0.7 m - high organic filters; the filtering beds...

The objective of this study was to compare the increasing protein level of fresh and dry coconut meal by urea-yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) fermentation process. The design was 2 X 8 factorial in CRD : factor A composed of 2 factors (dry and fresh coconut meal) and factor B composed of 8 factors (day of fermentation: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 days). The samples of each day of fermentation were collected for crude protein analysis. The data was analyzed by using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results were shown that the protein level at the different days of fermentation was different in fresh and dry coconut meal (P<0.05) which protein level of fresh coconut meal at day 10 was highest (34.40 %). While protein level in dry coconut meal was...
